The purpose of this class is to teach students the skills necessary in the field of metal fabrication and to expose them to the opportunities available to them in this field. Students will receive hands on safety training to include but not limited to PPE personal safety equipment, environmental safety, and the proper use of MSDS sheets, Material Safety Data Sheets.
The student will be trained in the proper use, safety, and care of Stick Are Welding, MIG Metal Inert Gas, TIG Tungsten Inert Gas welding, as well as Oxy Acetylene Gas cutting and welding. Students will receive special training on High Pressure Gas cylinders, safety and handling.
Students will have the opportunity to learn how to weld specialized materials such as stainless steel, copper, bronze, as well as high frequency welding of aluminum. Their training and experience in the metals fabrication class will include hands on training in the use of hydraulic presses, drill presses, jump shear, metal brake, plasma cutting, computer driven plasma cutting system, ring roller, various metal bending techniques, vertical and horizontal band saws, abrasive cut off system, pedestal grinders, as well as an entire tool crib of hand tools. The students will also be exposed to the use and safety requirements of a scotchman metal shear ironworker.
Students will learn the proper techniques for layout of metal and how to assemble projects from their own needs as well as a variety of instructor assigned work. Our class also offers our skills and labor to the school to build a variety of projects that are needed by our school system, for example, we built the baseball back stop of 120 feet in length, 21 feet high with an angled top section. There are a variety of other projects available to our students as well.
